It’s here!! Our baby boy nursery reveal! There is something so special about envisioning a space for this little human you’re about to meet and all the time you are going to spend getting to know each other. For me, it’s been a mixture of thinking about who he will grow up to be, how I will be as a new parent, and truly just excitement in creating a space that is going to be filled with so much love.

Baby Boy Nursery Design Plan:

When I thought about our baby boy nursery plan, I wanted it to be neutral, with an earthy element. I also wanted it to be a space he could grow into for years to come.

For this reason, we kept it mainly neutral with grey, white, and wood, and an amazing pop of dark green from our DIY shiplap wall! Mike and I completed this focal wall by ourselves, and it really made this room great! Our step-by-step process is outlined in this post on how to plank a wall.

Nursery Furniture:

After the wall, came the furniture! Let me preface, that since we moved to Clarksville, TN when I was 31 weeks pregnant, I definitely made a few “convenient” decisions over what I would have otherwise done with more time. But, I am so happy with them all.

Crib:

Originally, I'd planned to use a family crib my grandpa built by hand. He was a talented woodworker and made an incredible crib with built-in storage out of solid oak. And by solid, I mean like one massive, heavy, unforgiving piece. So, sadly with our tight hallway and narrow door frames, it wouldn't fit.

It just wasn't a possibility on the timeframe we had to adjust doorways or the crib itself. SO, it was onto plan B.

Plan B Crib:

I found this one online at Pottery Barn Kids that ranked high on mama reviews. The finish I wanted was also on clearance! (It looks like it is gone now but still some timeless color options!) Thankfully, it was EXACTLY as I pictured and a similar finish I would have tried to achieve on my grandpa’s crib had it fit.

I love the natural element it brings to our baby boy nursery and how it pops against the shiplap wall. It might sound silly, but it reminds me of a treehouse in the forest against the dark green backdrop!

Changing Table:

Another piece I gave myself a break on and ordered was our changing table. I refinished one in Morgantown I intended to keep. However, with the move and being unsure of the space we'd have, I sold it thinking, “I'll just do another one!”

Nursery changing table painted in Fusion Mineral Paint Sacred Sage with white wash drawers and original glass hardware.

I love using dressers for changing tables because they are seriously so versatile and long-lasting. For instance, this huge 9-drawer dresser-to-changing-table I did for a client provides so much surface area and can grow with her son for years!

However, when I started looking for contenders of our own the pickings were slim. Additionally, I didn’t want to run out of time, refinishing a piece in the last few weeks while pregnant. So, the changing table we chose is a Davinci Jenny-Lind piece. It works great in the space we have, is safe, functional, and came super quick (thank you amazon prime!). Check, check, check, and check.

Nursing chair:

Next, was my splurge – the nursery chair. This baby was an investment (the chair that is.. well, I guess the actual baby too haha) But, my plan for this chair is long term!

With how many people tell you, you'll be SOOO tired as a new parent I didn’t want to mess around with being uncomfortable. I thought a super comfortable chair would be an amazing option to spend the hours with my little guy, whether nursing or just snuggling. This baby not only swivels but reclines too.

I also chose a neutral fabric option so we can use it anywhere in our home after our baby boy gets bigger. AND, while I won’t assume that I’ll have the capacity to even think about it for a while, I am willing to guess we will have another babe down the road making this a perfect option for the next nursery too. Lastly, our sweet, sweet family helped us with their gifts to make this chair possible. I cannot wait for all the great use this thing is about to get!

End table:

This end table is years old but has worked well for us in multiple spaces! I love it when you can shop your own home for what you need. It helps keep spaces fresh and saves money. Win-win, right?

This end table is from Target and I have always liked the simple design with its wood and metal materials. It fit right in and is a great spot for nursing essentials.

Storage:

Any good nursery design considers storage! Let’s be honest… babies need a LOT. Even though we kept it super minimal, I am not naive to think we might end up filling this room with more essentials as our little guy grows. So, taking a proactive approach we focused on getting gender-neutral organizational items that can grow with him.

Changing table bins:

I ordered 6 of these from amazon and love that they have handles, are deep to accommodate all the things and a nice linen material for everyday use. These hold his diapers, wipes, and other changing essentials. We also have plenty of storage for easy outfit changes, medical equipment, and more.

Hamper:

This big ol’ basket is heavy duty and fits right in with our neutral, boy nursery theme. It has handles and is nice and roomy for all the dirty clothes we are bound to have.

Bookshelves:

I love the look of these bookshelves for a neutral, baby boy nursery. They hold a good number of books while keeping the space free from clutter or bulky shelving units. We don’t have a very large room so having them on the wall versus on the floor makes the room feel bigger. I love picturing him being able to grab his own books from this spot each night as he gets older!

Diaper pail:

I mean, I think it falls under storage… storage of stinky diapers. The petite size of this diaper pail is super nice to save space. It also comes in multiple color options. Another plus – it uses regular trash bags so you don’t have to spend a lot on specialty ones.

Decorative Elements:

Mirror:

This mirror was actually one we had from our Morgantown renovation. Once we started pulling the nursery together, the industrial pop of rod iron seemed like a perfect addition. I love that it has a little shelf that I can use for extra storage or decorative items or toys.

Curtains & rod:

The mirror also worked well with the curtain rod we had too. I opted for classic white curtains and raised them up and out to accentuate the window and make the space feel bigger. They are also double-lined, so in addition to our blinds will make for a cozy, dark space for sleeping.

Rug:

Who doesn’t love a super-soft-shaggy rug? It makes the space feel cozy! It also ties in great with the white and grey color scheme. Perfect for a baby boy nursery with just a little grey zig-zag for fun.

Light:

Similar to the end table, this lamp has made the rounds in our house. It just goes so well wherever we put it! I love that it can be tucked away, yet the switch is easily accessible for me to click sitting down.

Tree:

I may be a little late to the fiddle-leaf-tree party, but I love the natural element it adds. It fit perfectly into an old basket I had too.

Pictures:

The woodsy print I found at Kirklands and immediately knew it was the perfect addition next to his shiplap wall. It reminded me of places we’ve been like Banff in Canada, and Yellowstone National Park. Felt like just the right touch for our baby boy nursery theme/color scheme!

I got the animal photos at Hobby Lobby pretty early on (like before we even knew we were moving) so I wasn’t sure if they'd work in the space. But, they totally helped shape the vision for the neutral feel we were going for. I can’t wait for him to enjoy these. What little guy doesn’t love animals?

I ordered our mobile custom from Etsy with WoolySheepDots and loved that I could pick coordinating color felt for it. I tried to choose some higher contrast colors for him to enjoy as his eyesight develops.

Lastly, we added some framed family photos from our maternity shoot! It is so fun to look back on our journey. We are so eager to meet our little boy!
